- The Shimla Municipal Corporation is reviving water springs to meet the needs of city residents. For reviving the water springs, the civic body had received Rs 19 lakh foreign funding and Rs 1 crore under AMRUT. As a pilot project, water from seven springs would be filtered by using techniques, such as UV and ozonisation.
- Under BUARE programme, disaster management training has been imparted to 3500 ward residents in the past six months. Now, the Shimla Municipal Corporation is spreading knowledge about disasters among students by enacting a play ‘BUARE’ in various public and private schools. - The Ghuggar panchayat of the Palampur sub-division has emerged as the second panchayat in Kangra district that has started door-to-door garbage collection. Earlier, the Shimla Municipal Corporation and the Aima panchayat of Palampur were the only two local bodies in the state which have been collecting door-to-door garbage.
- The government, which has put the Eco-Tourism Development Policy-2015 on hold just two months after its notification, is mulling to bring a comprehensive policy to assure “responsible tourism” to minimize the negative impact on environment.
