APRIL 2016 CURRENT AFFAIRS ( PART-6)

  • In recently released 2016 World Press Freedom Index (WPFI), India ranked 133rd out of 180 nations surveyed worldwide in terms of press freedom in 2015. In this edition, India with a score of 43.17 has jumped three spots from the 136th position it had in 2015. The Index was published by Reporters Without Borders. Rank 1st – Finland.
  • India, Afghanistan and Iran have finalized draft of the Chabahar Trilateral Agreement on Transport and Transit Corridors.
  • National Capital of India, Delhi has been ranked 44th among the world’s 50 ‘future-ready economies cities’ that are embracing technology for growth. The list is topped by San Jose.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Maritime India Summit 2016 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. This is India’s first ever Maritime Summit and South Korea is the partner country for the summit.
  • Mother Teresa has been posthumously conferred with the United Kingdom’s prestigious Founders Award 2016.
  • The Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry has constituted a three-member Committee headed by the former Chief Election Commissioner B B Tandon to see that guidelines set for government advertisements by the Supreme Court are followed.
  • Every year World Heritage Day is being observed across the world on April 18. It is also known as International Day for Monuments and Sites. 2016 Theme: ‘The Heritage of Sport’.
  • The 14th meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Russia, India and China (RIC) Forum has vowed to deepen cooperation in combating terrorism. The meeting was held in Moscow, Russia.
  • The RBL Bank (formerly Ratnakar Bank) became the first private sector bank in India to open dedicated branch for startups.
  • Rahul Johri has been appointed as the first Chief Executive Officer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The appointment of CEO of BCCI was based on the lines of key recommendations of the three-member Justice RM Lodha Committee.
